I’ve been in Kuwait for two months (exactly) and I am still wondering what do people do here. This isn’t my first time here, I was actually born here and didn’t leave until I was 8, but all of my childhood memories were full of fun activities. We went to the beach almost every Friday, Thursday’s were either spent at Showbiz or someplace fun. My parents would take us to the “Al-Boom” restaurant for dinner on special occasions. But my fondest memory was when they would take us to Toys’R'Us and lets us pick whatever we wanted. As an adult it seems such a dry place to be. I do have a confession to make as well, I hate shopping, yes I do, honest!! I have no interest whatsoever in malls and just hanging out and looking at clothes. I guess I am in the wrong place then. I can’t believe that Kuwait does not have any cultural centers which have plays, movies or music. If it does, then I can not find it. No library to borrow books, I know I can buy them (or download them as e-books) , but I really enjoy spending time in libraries. The one thing that I did enjoy was dining at the Kuwait Towers. The view was awesome and the ambiance was perfect for a quiet romantic dinner. Although as a child I remember they were larger. When the weather was still humanly accepted, a walk on the sea front was pretty invigorating too. We also visited the Aquarium and enjoyed it even though it is quite small, but the walkway next to it makes the whole experience enjoyable.

I had the same perception…but mixing more with people and going out regularly I am now feeling there are lots of unexplored places in Kuwait….lot of things to do…but people are not aware of them.
Man no more showbiz?? or toys r us?? i think maybe u should look a bit harder i am sure you might find some traces of our childhood there right??
The artsy cultural scene in Kuwait is sporadic at best, I’m sorry to say, from my experience. But if you’re looking to check out books you can take a look at the library at the American University of Kuwait- I’m pretty sure that anyone with a civil ID can check out books. They’ve got a small but steadily growing collection…bear in mind that censorship laws in Kuwait are alive and well so I can’t promise you what the pickings will be like.
I’ve also been to a couple of international movie weeks / nights hosted at KU and AUK that were surprisingly interesting, stimulating, and for free.
Thanx harmonie22, I was smart enough to come with a whole suitcase of books and around 2 GBs of ebooks. The tip on movie nights sounds interesting, I’ll check it out, thanx.
As far as theatre goes, there is of course the KUWAIT LITTLE THEATRE down at Ahmadhi, they put on some pretty good amateur do’s seen a few myself and can recommend them. Enjoy.

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!There are soooo many things to do in Kuwait! the outdoor shoppes are amamzing, going to the market and seeing the different kinds of fruits and vegetables are cool to! you are just lazy and don’t want to leave the air conditionig!
Apparently you didn’t read it properly. I didn’t say I didn’t want to leave the air conditioning, I also said I was new to the country. It’s been 2 years and now I know what to do and where to go. It is always easier to point the finger and be mean. It would have been nicer to just say which markets to see and how to get there instead of accusing people you don’t know of laziness. And you can’t exactly go “watch” the vegetables every day. I find that museums, art shows, sporting events and other things are lots of fun it just takes a while until you figure out how to get to know about them before they happen.
