Who has a stronger brand Mohamed Mounir or Amr Diab?

StatusAndCommentsMy sister asked this question and an interesting conversation took place.  How do you decide who is the stronger brand?  Is it by popularity, number of albums sold, popular songs, ads, albums released, marketability or by how much the artist makes in a concert?

Deciding on the criteria is always a very critical thing.  I did a quick search on facebook and found that Amr Diab has more groups dedicated to him than Mohamed Mounir and with lots of members whereas Mohamed Mounir has more fan pages with just as much fans.  How do you compare and decide?  One friend commented that Mounir has fans in Germany and all over Europe too which is true, but Amr Diab won the international Music Award too.  Every way you look at it, you realize that they are both very famous and have lots of fans and loyal followers.  Nevertheless my own personal opinion is that Amr Diab is a stronger brand because :

  • He was chosen by Pepsi to lead their campaigns which means he is more marketable.
  • He is a trend maker in terms of music and fashion.
  • His fans are more widespread and diverse and he has the ability to reach a wider audience.

That was my simple analysis, what do you think?

i love them both but i believe that Amr has a stronger brand, may be because Amr’s songs is more lighter, does not have a deep meaning, u understand it from the first time u listen to it
But Monir’s songs has more depth, u may listen to the song many times and each time u discover a new meaning.
kaman Monir has a variety in his songs more than Amery’s only romantic songs.
Also Amr have the looks, which is consider very important in the entertainment field, a new look with every new album.
Monir from the first Album till now he has that Afro hair.

True, Mounir has his own style and hasn’t changed it much from the very beginning. Mounir’s music has depth that Amr’s songs don’t which is maybe why his fan demographic is quite different.

        trend setter? hardly.
The song that put him under the spotlight: حبيبي يا نور العين، was mostly all plagiarized from Spanish music and videos. if you look at his older songs, such as the moronic آيس كريم في جليم، you would see that he only wanted to westernize his songs to appeal to the younger crowds.

I personally like Muhammad Munir for his music has that traditional beat and many of his song are in local Egyptian accents.

I love Mounir’s music by the way. If you don’t believe me about the trend setting you should check out the number of people who bought pullovers that looked like the one he wore in one of his songs. Even if you don’t like his music or his style, what he is doing works for him in terms of sales and fame.

We are comparing Burger King to a restaurant serving ethnic delicacies :) Comparison is almost impossible. Hmm, I don’t know I’m a bad example, I’m the anti-Amr Diab fan. I can’t stand the hype!!

I was not comparing them as musicians but as brands. I love the older songs though :-).

as a brand .. its diab
as music… mounir got deepr music and lyrics
diab got light lyrics.. some dance music,, fashion and sport look.
i guess diab almost more international in his field.. but mouinr is an egyptian representative and african representative too in an world music festival he got tru world music wiz very egyptian identity and african too !!

diab melodies and music are concentrated as mediterranian.. so it can catch mor fans .. as latin pop is always world wide

Amr diab is more concrned with his look and fashion…he has a light music that catches the audiences eares

But Mounir is more concened with the music and lyrics..he has a big popularity too..which i call it a true popularity..as Mounir’s fans are very loyal

internationally i think that mouinr is only represntative to the egyptian music worldwide…and he has (true ) fans in europe…amr diab too has his own fans internationally but he is not a representative for the egyptian music

in general i think that mounir is better than amr diab
