Wordle and Art

Wordle is an interesting site that creates word tags for blog or just plain text.  Of course I had check out my blog’s wordle first, then I thought they looked kinda cool so I started playing around with it.  Then realized they would make awesome framed prints in the nursery if I used Mother Goose’s rhymes.  You really should play around with the fonts, colors and the word placement.rockabyebaby

My Color is Pompeian Red

According to Colorstrology my color is Pompeian Red.  I don’t usually like reds but I do like this particular shade of red. I actually liked their description of my character, it is true most people can guess exactly what my opinion might be on most issues but almost no one knows how I really feel.

Skyfire for a great mobile browsing experience

skyfire_startI own an HTC which runs Windows Mobile 6.  Ever since I got the phone ( a year and a half ago) I have hated the mobile version of Internet Explorer, I don’t use IE anyways and thought the mobile version was slow, had horrible rendering and was not exactly user or touch friendly.  I tried Opera but it would crash every single time and Minimo and some other browsers but still was not satisfied.

Until yesterday, bored out of my mind, my husband hogging the laptop I did a search for mobile browsers on my phone and got Skyfire.  In a couple of minutes it was downloaded, installed and up and running.  To say I was impressed is an understatement.  I love testing new software and usually uninstall as soon as I am unhappy with it.  Skyfire was amazing, it is fast, easy to use, touch friendly and has lots of great features.  Web pages are rendered exactly as they are and you can zoom in and out.  It supports javascript, Ajax and you can even watch YouTube clips on it, which was impossible before.  Best of all, it is free.

Don’t take my word for it, try it yourself.

FaceBook Friends

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with your friends especially if you are living abroad.  What I don’t like is getting friend requests from total strangers.  Unless you are two, in a playground, you do not go up to random strangers and ask them to be your friend.  In the real world when you want to get to know someone, you introduce yourself, let them know who you are, what you might have in common so that the person doesn’t ignore you.  That is why you can add a message while creating a friend request, if I don’t know you, don’t have any common friends with you and you haven’t sent a message then I am going to press the ignore button.

On a lighter note, you can make FaceBook look like spring by using UserStyles if you are using Firefox.  You will need to have Greasemonkey or Stylish installed.

Who are you connected to?

Za3tar has created these awesome blog readership graphs by using a script which generates how blogs link and are linked to on Qwaider Planet.  He has even made one especially for ChocolateMintsinaJar (so cool).

It is interesting to see how these blogs are connected.  Like any community, some blogs are more active and connected than others.  It would also be interesting to see how these relationships change with time in terms of connectivity and in the strength of this relationship.

How deep do you go into your search results

Google Pages

Google Pages

Have you ever searched for something and got 17 hundred million links as a result? How far deep do you go? I usually take a look at the first 2 or 3 pages maximum. Over time I have realized that if what I am looking for is not on the first page then I need to use a different search term.  I wonder why they don’t just decide on a cut off page and return only 50 or a 100 results and that’s it.  The problem is that it would take forever to go though all of them and after a certain point it becomes obvious that what you are looking for is not there anyways.  What do you think?

100% female

I totally freaked.  I found a link on Hani’s blog, to a browser cache test that can tell from your browsing history if you are male or female. Turns out I am 100% female, I was shocked because I am a geek and thought some of my browsing tendancies would be male.  Maybe my time on geeksugar tipped them off?  Or my late night browser/window shopping for jewelry, handbags and sofas was the reason they figured me out.

Go here and try it out.

Arabic Fonts

I have a real issue with Arabic fonts.  There are some really good blogs out there in Arabic but I always have a problem with arabic on-screen fonts.  I don’t know if this is a problem with anyone else or if it is just me.  The font is either too small or the spacing is too tight.  Unless I make the font a couple of times larger than I usually like it in English the readability is not good enough.

GMail adds themes

I am in Gmail heaven.  I’ve always wished I could change the boring Gmail theme.  I use Stylish to change the fonts mainly to SegouUI but I’ve always wanted to change the colors.  Now you can.  I am not sure if this has been rolled out to all accounts yet or not but you can change them from your Settings tab.  I like the cherry blossoms theme but it’s a bit too pink and girly for my taste, I am sure I’ll play with all of them and choose the new blue or cold shower theme in the end.

Gmail Quota

Gmail Quota

When I got a Gmail invite in June 2004 (I did beg for it), I thought yaay 1GB worth of email that’s more than I could ever need.  Today after emptying my trash, deleting spam and any other useless emails I realized I had filled 21% of my quota.  I still have lots to go but I do delete emails which I find useless and not worth keeping yet I still have managed to accumulate 1.5 GB.  I am not sure if that is because I like to keep good email or because I have lots of important attachments which I also like to have saved.

It reminded me of the time I bought my first 1GB harddrive many many years ago and I also thought at the time why on earth do I need all that storage for.  After building a large collection of ebooks, the introduction of digital cameras and lots of good songs later, I now know that you will always find ways to fill up all that memory.
