Baby Lulu loves handbags, purses and wallets. She loves getting into my closet and choosing her favorites and then drags it along to the door saying ‘bye bye’ signaling that it is time to go out, she’s ready and even has a bag to prove it. I decided that it was time she had her own bag instead of having to ‘borrow’ mine. She already has a backpack with a plush kitten on it but it is much too big and she loves hugging and kissing the kitten not carrying it. I had lots of felt left over from my last Felt Bunny craze and decided it was time to use the stuff. Felt is so easy to use and if you are a beginner like me, with no sewing machine it is so easy to hand stitch.
I just made the pattern up, added the flower. You cut two of the body, 1 handle, 1 flower and 1 circle for the heart of the flower.
First stitch the heart of the flower and then stitch the flower to one side of the body. Stitch the ends of the handle together so it forms a circle. Then stitch one side of the handle to the body using a blanket stitch. Then stitch the other side.
If you don’t know how to do a blanket stitch, FutureGirl has an awesome easy to follow tutorial with step by step pictures.
You can download the pattern here [BagPattern]. If you make one please share a picture, I’d love to see them.
Happy crafting.

Actually I don’t know what it’s called but I passed by Bait Lothan today to check out the arts courses and was met by a pleasant surprise. They had a hand made fair with lots of super cute items like jewelry, home accessories and Mexican hand embroidered dresses. I would have loved to take pictures but I was carrying little Lulu because I was too lazy to use the stroller thinking I would only be in and out in a couple of minutes. I loved the paintings and the Mexican dresses they were all so beautiful. The fair is still open tommorrow and after so if you’re in the neighborhood pop in and check it out.

I wasn’t lazy the last few days I was just challenged into finding a solution for my Polyvore addiction. If you don’t know what Polyvore is, then you really should just go and experience it for yourself. It is a site which lets you mix and match items of clothing into “sets” and outfits. You can also browse other people’s sets and steal their ideas for your wardrobe.
I am not much of a shopping person or even a fashion person, but I do like to look presentable, elegant and chic. Oh I really do wish I had one of those Jetson wardrobes where I could clickety click, try different outfits on and just click and be done. Well Polyvore is halfway there because you get to look at the different peices together. Their next step should be 3 dimensional imaging on your body (a girl can dream).
I also love the groups because no matter what, one person will always have a certain style and the whole idea is to be able to see different styles by different people. My favorite group is Muslim Attire, because with the hijab it is sometimes not so easy to find inspiration. The only problem was there is no rss feed for the groups and you have to go every once in a while and check them out. Well it is not really a problem, but I am a lazy person and a forgetfull one, left to chance I would probably totally forget about it in a couple of days time and just stop looking and go back to wearing my jeans, t-shirt and flip flops happily.
I needed those Polyvore sets to come to me, I even tried some voodoo on them but no they would not listen. So I remembered Yahoo!Pipes, which helps you build your own feeds among so many other things. I love a good challenge, once challenged I rarely if ever back down until I find a solution to the problem being faced. They are now happily flying to my Google Reader.
So I proudly present to you a feed to Muslim Attire. If you are interested in other groups just go to the pipe and enter the group ID (if you look up at the url when you are in the group page it is the xxxx in id=xxxx).
The interesting thing is that the creator of Polyvore is also one of the creators of Yahoo!Pipes.
Enjoy, now I am off to do some more browsing.

Imagine a book that tells the tale of four girls’ lives, loves and losses. The setting is in the city Riyadh of Saudi Arabia. Girls of Riyadh by Rajaa Alsanea, is like Sex and the City without the sex and in Riyadh instead of New York. Gamrah, Sadeem, Lamees and Michelle are the girls who we follow through a series of emails that were written by one of them which tells their stories.
At the beginning of the book you start reading the emails of one of the girls, you don’t know which one who has decided that she will tell their story, using a Yahoo group called “Seereh Wenfada7et”. Immediately you are drawn into their lives. Perhaps it is general curiosity of how other people live their lives especially young women. Maybe it is the setting, Saudi Arabia, which is very different than any other country.
Coming from a different world where freedom is a taken for granted, it was strange to think about how different my life would have been like if that freedom was taken away. What kind of person would I have been if I did not have the chance to experience all of the things that I have? Then again I was very lucky, my parents, even though they are religious people and that is where they have always drawn the line (Halal and Haram) where probably the most open minded parents around. They encouraged education, intellect and culture. They wanted us to learn, to read and to explore. Before them, my grandparents did the same for their children. So perhaps it is a mindset more than anything else.
The book is rich with culture and tradition. The author is very descriptive and makes you feel that you are a welcome yet slightly perverse voyeur into their lives.
I liked the story and would recommend it as light reading. Maybe because the author is still young I felt that it lacked a certain depth to it but I can’t exactly put my finger on it, or maybe it is just the fact that the book was originally written in Arabic and something is always lost in translation. What I didn’t like was the naivety of the girls, but that is not the author’s fault that is how growing up like how they did would do to them. They did sort of grow up on the pages and some of them matures.
