Women in art.

I saw this on YouTube and thought it was fantastic. 500 years of women in art in the west. I managed to recognize some of the portraits but the rest were unrecognizable, I am sure that is because of my ignorance of art. What struck me the most was the change in what we would call beautiful, the women are mainly chubby with full round faces, they look so much more healthier than the stick thin beautiful of today. The question was how much really does art/media affect our idea of beauty or any other thing in general. Definitely in yesteryears people were not constantly bombarded with images from TV, movies, magazines, billboards and music videos, and lets not forget the internet. I loved the video, but I thought the merging of the portraits could slow down just a tiny bit. Enjoy !

Notable Egyptian Women

I was thinking about role models, and i was wondering why we don’t have more positive Egyptian women as role models.  Women who have excelled in their fields and proven that despite the stereotype and perhaps some cultural and social barriers, they can still reach for the stars.

After a lot of googling I realized that we have many authors and poets but hardly any scientists.  As an engineer I know that there are lots of girls who do study engineering and other fields of science and there has to be women out there who made it in the field.  I am very sure that not many are famous but they are definitely successful young women.

One woman who literally does reach for the stars, Tahani Amer, works for NASA.  The interesting thing was that she originally was going to Med school, then get married at 17 and moved to the US and did a degree in Engineering which eventually landed her a job at NASA during her senior year and had four children on the way.

Think about it.
