Doily crochet rugs

I have always wanted to make one of these. I think doily rugs are super cute. They are also great for small areas or in bathrooms. I got myself some super bulky yarn and a 10mm hook and just started making a giant doily. I love how doilies look but never felt they would work with my home. The 5yo would probably abuse them anyway.

And then I made another one. The first one is made with acrylic yarn which is the perfect thing for bathrooms or kitchens because you can wash them regularly without worrying. And it just felt so wrong using high quality wool on my bathroom floor. The second one is made with four strands of sport weight cotton held together, I like the pattern more but the pink one works better. It is a little bit floppy and ruffles slightly at the edges and doesn't keep its shape so well. But still everything is a learning curve.

I think the next step is to try making one using t shirt yarn. I think it might be just perfect. It should hold its shape and hold up well with washing too.

Gorgeous!! I’ve wanted to make doily rugs, too, but haven’t decided on the yarn to use! (I’d love to use t-shirt yarn, but have to make the time to cut some…and I’m currently far too lazy for that.) Is the second rug pattern yours? It’s truly beautiful.

I am lazy too. I thought about buying the t shirt yarn but shipping costs usually end up being so high. It is my pattern. I just made it up as I went along. You could try super bulky weight the pink one is made of it.

Is there a pattern somewhere for this rug? I would love to make one, but would like the pattern. It is a very pretty rug and need one for my bathroom. Love that they can be thrown in the washer!
